For a personal project this year, instead of my 10 on 10 blog circle, I am photographing many of our Saturday mornings for 2015! I am doing this with a group of fantastic photographers from all over the US and Cananda…and we have our own website! Be sure to check there every week to see the images side by side.

mychildhoodchristmas

I was inspired by one of my favorite bloggers, Erin Little, to share a photo from my childhood Christmas. A “throw back” if you will.

One of the reasons I am passionate about documenting families in their own homes is because of photos like the one above. I find great delight to look back at old PRINTS (that I can physically touch and bring close to my face and not be looking at a screen) from my childhood. Nostalgia in the details:

  • The Christmas tree my dad cut down from the woods while hunting (he refused to ever buy a tree). We always called them our Charlie Brown trees.
  • My stocking!
  • The big gift every year–this year was the bouncy horse. How many of you had one of those?! Popular back then. Dangerous now.
  • My footie pajamas
  • The style of my hair and how small I looked

Looking at this old photo brings back the memories. What are some of your favorite holiday memories?

  • Jessica Thomason - I love old photos for the same reasons! That horse is definitely illegal now! Love this so much Alana Rasbach Photography!ReplyCancel

  • kins - Wow what memories! The TV in the background looks ancient and I love the “sit & spin” toy, too.
    love you

I did it! I started this project, along with a group of other photographers, one year ago. (Well, I was obviously busy Aug.-Oct. so I missed a few, but who’s counting?) It’s fascinating to look back on these images. One year ago we just moved into our new home. My husband started a new job. We had a child in diapers. Fun to see what was on my refrigerator then. Here is a link to all of my 10 on 10s.

December has been a really good month so far. I’ve made some personal changes, to make more space in my heart and in my head and to prepare for Advent. I’m very thankful for my little family and for Jesus our Immanuel.

Now onto Breanna, who started it all.

  • kelly - Hi Alana, i was wondering; do you happen to use VSCO presets? Would you mind sharing which you used on this particular set of images? I love it! And love all your documentary work. You are so talented.
